If you have a guy in the minors who no longer has options, but has cleared waiver status, can he be traded and then assigned to the minors by the new owner or will he need to clear waivers again?

Is it that way in MLB as well? It just seems strange that a minor leaguer with a minor league contract would have to clear waivers after a trade to be assigned to the minors.
