SOS, RPI's came out today.. i expected to have a high SOS after playing 3 top 25 teams..if someone could take a look...my rpi is 228 sos 248 no teams where sims

game 1 homes vs #14 rpi 47 sos 91
game 2 at #11 rpi 79 sos 120
game 3 away rpi 195 sos 227
game 4 away rpi 371 sos 275
game 5 at #17 rpi 144 sos 245
game 6 home rpi 44 sos 82
game 7 away rpi 290 sos 263

For the sake of comparison (and because I was surprised my SOS was so high, given I took over a DIII team that was SimAI last year) here is my schedule so far:

Game 1 home; rpi 182; sos 215
Game 2 home; rpi 271; sos 169
Game 3 away; rpi 213; sos 249
Game 4 away; rpi 194; sos 334
Game 5 away; rpi 352; sos 252
Game 6 away; rpi 155; sos 139
Game 7 away; rpi 188; sos 217
Game 8 home; rpi 67; sos 299

My own RPI is 93 with a 119 SOS.

My only thought, with respect to the 119 SOS, is that it is looking at my entire SOS, and my schedule is pretty tough (i think) from here on out.

My last two exhibition games are both home, against a 89 RPI; 284 SOS and against #21 with a 52 RPI; 199 SOS. My in-conference play is also going to be challenging (the Minn. IAC has the 4th-highest conference RPI).

Still, that could explain why my SOS is significantly higher than yours. How do your last 2 games and conference look?

next game is vs #9 ranked rpi 78 sos 140
last game is against nighthawks with an A+ rating

conference has a solid player in tduffy, 6 sims and new players but is the SOS for conference already factored in before conference games even begin?

I don't know for certain, but I suspect it may be. If you look on the standings page, you can see that the Conference RPI is already available.

EDIT - Apparently I was mistaken, my bad.

No, the SOS for the conference changes day-to-day. Roughly, it's the average SOS of the individual teams, give-or-take a few points.

Your SOS will improve with the next 2 opponents. The A+ rating is immaterial except that those teams usually keep winning and, thus, their RPI keeps improving.

3 of your 8 games are vs. teams with RPI worse that 290. Those are RPI-killers! If you have a lot of those in your conference, it'll be more difficult to have a great RPI.

WIS has made some tweaks , but the basic RPI is:

1) 25% is your winning percentage;

2) 50% is your SOS ( your opponents winning percentage (not counting the game they played you);

3) 25% if your opponents' opponents SOS.

thanks for the formula..makes alot of sense..good luck to both of you

Right ... it is only the record of the teams, note how good they are, that goes into SOS.
