Man and zone in the new engine... Topic

Ok, I think I've seen enough of the new press to make me consider ditching it. My Greensboro team(three-time defending champ in D3 Tark) had 35 fouls, gave up 52 FTAs and 103 points in the last game. A few games ago my 50 ath, 58 sp, 47 def, A IQ Sr. SF fouled out in 10(!) minutes. I can't even consider running uptempo any more....guys are playing into orange and red@normal tempo, even running 11 deep. All of this after the 5/27 tweaks mind you.

So, some questions for all of you man/zone/combo coaches. How are these systems faring so far for you when compared to the old engine? More specifically, how does defensive FG% look? Fouls? Rebounding? Turnovers? Stamina? What kind of players are you having success with?

Inquiring minds want to know...

With Roanoke, which i compare to Greensboro often, I no longer run uptempo. I have had success running slowdown even more than normal tempo. Also, I have been putting 15 minutes towards zone in practice time, which will hopeully gt me to a decent level of knowledge by the NT. Also, I'm playing the team you just gave up 100+ to in my next game and I am scared out of my mind.

Man and Zone are fairing better than the press, but I wouldn't call either a magic bullet. My DII Tark team (Adelphi) runs a 2-3 zone with some pretty decent talent and has been giving up 43% shooting through the first 8 games, which is probably a bit higher than normal.

Our fouling is pretty good at 17.8 per game compared to 27.6 for my opponents, but we have played a bunch of pressing teams. Rebounding has been good, but it usually is with my teams. Zone doesn't force a lot of TOs and I've found that to still be the case. Stamina wasn't an issue before and still isn't.

My team is running Zone / Press and doing well right now:

Widener

Since the 5/27 update the team has been following my distribution, no one has fouled out, etc.

ANyone running a ZOne/Press/ It woudl seem like it might be the more viable of the two press combo's due to stamina issues.

I am running a press/zone, but am only practicing press. So far, I am 3-0 and am not having much foul/stamina issues.

My press team in Allen has calmed down. Averaging 22 fouls a game now. I think I'm just gonna wait it out.

i am practicing another defense on each of my teams, but not sold on switching quite yet, still think it might be an advantage to press if you have the right players.

And if you are playing the right team ... all the big foul games seem to happen when playing teams that are very talented (usually more talented than you). But if you are playing teams you have a talent advantage on, the press seems to work OK (Both FCP and Man/Press, Zone/Press.

At least, that is my observation.

Ya I am with you hugh. I think they need to tone down the fouls a little more and just allow you to get beat more.
