filling 8 or more scholarships Topic

ok, HD noob question: Is there any upside to taking on a team that has a bunch of scholarships to fill? (like 8-11) If so, what is the recruiting strategy for that many players? Is it just a bad thing altogether?

Step one is you can only sign 6 players from each class. For ex. If you have 8 scholies to fill, at least 2 must be from transfers or juco players with fewer eligible years. Personally, I think there is a benefit to it, as you don't get stuck with crappy sim recruits for numerous years. If you are planning to stay in d3 for a few seasons, I prefer to only sign 5 from each class. Perhaps a good strat for a team with 10 open scholies might be sign 6 freshmen, redshirt one, sign 2-3 upperclassmen, and leave one or two scholarships open. Unlike gd, walkons leave after one year and you get the money for them the next year. Don't take too many tho, or it affects your players improvement rates.

Really?! I didn't know that.

When I have a large class, I'll fill it if I think my team will have a lower prestige the next season. If I think we'll be improved, I'll sometimes leave openings so I can recruit with a better prestige rating.

I've heard that more than 2 walkons doesn't give your team enough good players to run full court drills with. I don't think the drop off is a lot, but I've heard it exists.

just signed 8 players..6 fresh, 2sophs.. made sure i concentrated on getting the first 3-4 within 500 miles and projected at d3 425-450 range. considered early so i would not have to battle. me plenty of money to look around for a really good fresh and couple of juco's. had money to battle if needed. have to be willing to use season 1 as a development year

My feedback, straight from the former horse's mouth: 10 scholly players are needed for scrimmaging. Less than 10 hinders everyone's improvement. I think even 1 W/O has a teeny-tiny effect, and 2 W/Os has a teeny effect.

(Looks like an "issue" over penalty for 1 W/O. I could certainly be wrong. After all, I think Al is a good coach. So my judgment is in dispute.)
