when everyone else says buy, its the time to sell.....when everyone says buy,.....

is now the time to build a press team....or if not a press at least a combo team........assuming that DEF will be more in demand as folks shift toward more man defenses, I'm wondering whether this is the moment for a press team with weak DEF but killer SPD and ATH, built to do what everyone says isnt possible.......

I need to decide whether this is an insight akin to how Mr Paulson made gabillions betting against the housing market or an idea that will get me mentioned in next years Darwin awards....

so, let me see if i got this straight...

this thread suggests that now might be the time to build a press team

BUT,

if lots of people heed this advice, then now is not the time to build a press team?

ah, but the flaw here is about 3-4 years ago TK decided this was going to be track star dynasty, the press was simply the best way to do that, there hasnt been a bad time to recruit ath/spd since then.

however i of course continue to try to go for players with strong cores with ath/spd secondary, because i am a contrarian, for some reason thinking basketball players should beat track stars.

Yeah, but most people won't heed the advice, because the press clearly isn't viable. It's not even worth experimenting with, not for a single second, because it's so obviously broken. Best to just forget the press defense even existed, in fact. Move along, nothing to see here. These are not the droids you're looking for.

So the press is non-glitchy now, or is it dead?
5/31/2010 11:53 PM
It's not "dead", I think it just takes some coaching to run it effectively now, as opposed to building a press team and watching it coast.

I choose the press because I like the idea of running a 11-deep, high-stamina, Clemson/Dayton/Mizzou-style team, not because it was glitched up.

It'll be a challenge, but I'm gonna give it at least another 4 or 5 seasons before I decide it's impossible.

I didn't play Press much before, but I'm thinking of going combo, just to see if a real chess game approach to defense can work now.

until the press is removed as a primary defense it is still alive and well, i have seen firsthand to a ridiculous degree (and had confirmed by seble) that those who have the right type team to run the press should expect to see continued success.

but hopefully the press will disappear...

Since less people are going to run the fcp now, wouldn't it stand to reason that bh and passing will be even less important than it's been on your journey to mediocrity?

I'm not sure that I have the cajones to try it, but now may be the time to go fastbreak, full court press and do what everyone says doesnt work.....

I am undefeated running the press on this new engine.

Vive de largo la prensa!

I think it'd be a great strategy but for 2 things...they're going to phase out the FB and also, FB and FCP still don't really have an affect on opposing team's fatigue. Would be nice to run opponents to death like Loyola Marymount, but the engine (new or old) doesn't really provide for that.
