Just curious....what's the lowest Glove you guys have used at catcher and gotten away with it?

There's an interesting IFA in my league, and everything looks really good EXCEPT his 18 projected glove at Catcher.

He looks like he'll end up a DH, but I'm curious if you could get away with playing him at Catcher every once in awhile, or if that glove would be a disaster?

I can't say I've ever even looked at a catcher's glove or range.

+1...unless I'm trying to figure out if he can play some 1st base as well

I think in some dev chat or other it says that a catcher's glove rating affects passed balls... but I can't find it. In any event I totally agree with Mike and cmthieme.

Checked my current longest teams. WifS apparently did an update(I think some of the PB turned into WP) early on. The difference between 19 and 25 might be 5-6 PB a season. I had a 19 with 15 PB. I also had a 19 with 9. It's a non-issue in my mind.

OK, great...thanks guys. Here's the guy I was looking at:

I have a catcher, excellent pitch caller, tolerable arm, career ML OPS of .841. His Glove is 7. Over his career, he has averaged about 1 passed ball for each 60-65 innings, with a season high of 20. I can live with that.

It's a dead link for me and we wouldn't be able to see his projected ratings anyway-- just copy and past his ratings.

Also, I agree with the above posters. The only things I look at with catchers are pitch calling and the arm ratings.

Yeah, cm hit the nail on the head for me, if I need the guy to play first I'll keep an eye on it, otherwise...no.

Here's the projected ratings for the switch hitting catcher:

Defensive:
3/18/67/70/71

Offensive:
83/95/87/61/90

Not too shabby ;)

That guy will be a helluva offensive player. I'd put up with mediocre D, but he will be better than mediocre,IMO.

AS/AA/PC is all I look at... unless the 1B thing is coming into play.

67/70/71 is a pretty decent C...and if he can get close to those hitting ratings, he'll be an all-star.

I thought that range rating determined passed balls and glove determined errors.

Yeah if that guy hits his projected ratings and has good durability he could be an MVP-caliber player. And his defensive ratings are not bad at all.
