Promote after ML season ends Topic

Can I leave a player in the MinL until that team's playoff run is done and then promote him to my ML team?

My ML team won't be in the playoffs, so my AAA team might be playing after the ML team is done.

He's over 26 and I want him on my ML team next season. Don't want to risk him retiring if I leave him in the MinL over the off season.

I know that he probably won't retire if he's under 30, but I would rather not take the chance.

Thanks.

If he's under 30 and on your 40 man, you should be good.

I wouldn't promote him to the majors until after spring traing next season because of the (slight) chance that he could suffer a major injury during ST. You do not want him to start accruing ML service time from the DL.

Thanks. Good tip.

Obviously we're not talking all-star talent here. I'm rebuilding. He's going to be better than what I think I'll find on the low-end FA market. And cheaper.

If he's still a key player when his ML service time becomes an issue, something went very wrong with my rebuilding plans.

I'm still curious if it's possible.
