Trading Mishandled Prospect Topic

I am about to trade for a mishandled prospect and curious if he can recover. The guy in question played low a/high a his first year, then was brought to the majors his second season only to be demoted to triple a after 10ish games. Im curious about two things. In an ideal world I want this guy in AA not AAA. If when I trade for him I put him in AA will I be risked another demotion penalty? Second, will he continue to progress in AA or AAA for that matter even though he has already had a demotion penalty?

20 in training, good coaching and adequate playing time is all you can do and hope for the best. Make-up will be a big factor as well.

You won't get a demotion penalty if you assign a newly acquired player to a lower level.

How about posting a link, though? The HTML code can be harvested from his player card under Blog => Forum Player Link.

Players progress. No one can say "Yeah, he'll regain everything he lost" because A) he may not have lost anything B) we don't really know where a player will end up with perfect development.

I thought about posting a link but since I haven't made the trade yet I didn't want to post the player yet because I don't want to let the cat out of the bag so to speak.

I am not concerned about him hitting his projections I just want to make sure he will continue to progress. The only other experience I have had with a player getting a demotion penalty that player pretty much stopped progressing. I also wanted to verify that I can put him in AA without a demotion penalty.

You can. Or, I should say, I've done it many times and have not suffered a demotion penalty.

It sounds like he's a third year player. His progression is slowing as we speak.

No he is about 1/3rd of the way through his second year. First year he spent between low-a/high-a, this year he has spent between majors and AAA

He also has a 96 makeup and progressed 8 points overall last year.

If you have decent coaches at AA, put him there this year and give him as much playing time as his DUR will allow. He should regain all his demotion penalities plus a point or two by the end of the season. Next season play him full time at AAA.

you actually can, i traded for an ML prospect who was in AAA and assigned him to AA because it was only his 2nd pro year and he was no where near done developing, he took a demotion hit

that said it seems to be pretty rare, but possibly only about as rare as actual demotion penalties

I too have experienced a demotion penalty assigning a player to a level lower than the one the other franchise had him playing. Mine was many seasons ago, but I've (for obvious reasons) avoided testing it again since.

His 96 makeup will help I'm sure.

Now that the trade is Accepted here is the player in question: Joshua Upshaw . Still up in the air if I should place him in AA or AAA
