DIII recruiting by region Topic

Is it me, or is it significantly easier to recruit in DIII from the Northeast (because distance is such a big factor?)

I mean, Minnesota is nice, too. But it strikes me that teams in, for instance, Texas are at a big disadvantage.

I think NYC is the best place to recruit from. So many schools there, so many recruits within 70 miles.

Remember that it is the concentration of DII schools that you should be worried about, as that is what will drive the number of drop downs/pull downs that you will see.

Yeah maybe, but so much competition too. I don't think there is a single best place, since it depends on what conferences are good/bad at D2 a lot.

It would be interesting to see where all the A/A+ teams are in the country for d2 and d3 across all worlds. I know in Tark, the PA/MD/NC/VA/NJ area has a ridiculous number of very very good d3 teams (7/12 A+ and none in the TX/Westcoast area, 2/5 A schools and again none in the TX/Westcoast area).

For pull downs no question it is the northeast because there is so much more recruits under 300 miles. Because it is scouting evals the closer the better. Under the old method with phone calls, distance didn't matter. IMO, it was silly easy in the west just because you could expand out 1000 miles and have little to no competition and it cost the same amount as if you were staying 200ish miles in the east, but with 50x the competition. Regular recruiting though with drop downs and such I'd say it averages out to be just as easy/tough anywhere. More recruits, but more competition. Less recruits, but less competition. If you have a high prestige then the west is easy to maintain it.

Remember, though, in DIII, there are 54 schools in Pennsylvania and 41 in New York. So it's not surprising to see more top teams from there.

Texas as D3 is really tough. You pretty much are locked into using FSS on it, but easily 2/3rds of the recruits are guys you will never get, plus the remainder are usually closer to other schools in D3. A lot of money gets wasted.

The easiest places in DIII are places where there are a lot of DII schools and very few DIII schools (or sim DIII schools).

Recruits are generated per team in a geographic area. It's a simple numbers game. The more sims in your area the better because they add to your pool of players but don't compete for them. If other sims that move in, they pay more than you do. The more teams from the upper division the better.

It needs an overhaul.

With my Rochester DIII team, I've tended to stay out of the northeast for recruiting, because the cost of FSS in NY and PA is just too prohibitive.

Is it safe to say that New York/Pennsylvania is the best place to recruit in D-II as well?

The differences in school distribution isn't as dramatic in D-II. While in D-III there are 95 schools in New York/Pennsylvania, there are only 35 in D-II.

So less competition, but what about the number of recruits? I would assume less generated than D-III

Do a recruiting search by states and you can easily see the difference.
