Random question about corner outfielders Topic

Assuming the offense is the same, who would you prefer to have in field (or at either corner spot, for that matter)?

62 range
40 glove
67 arm strength
70 arm accuracy

or

67 range
52 glove
51 arm strength
51 arm accuracy

Obviously sacrificing some arm for better range/glove on the 2nd guy, and the first guy has a better arm but worse glove/range.

I know the recommendations for LF are 55/55/50/50, and the reco's for RF are 65/50/70/65, but I'm just curious what everyone here thinks about that. Does it even matter? Will it even be a noticeable difference, or would one definitely be preferable to the other?

I really only worry about defense at SS/2B/CF. If someone can hit and they are close to the D ratings at their position, I am fine with playing them. I would play either in LF or RF and not worry about it.

I agree with hartjh14, but in general, I think the most important thing in a RF is a good arm, so I'd put the guy with the arm in RF, all else being equal. I've also heard anecdotal evidence that putting higher range guys in LF is more useful than RF.

The park dimensions matter too. I'd give the nod to a better glove over arm as well.

Are there any stats to say which field gets more balls hit that way? I would say LF but just curious.

Note a huge sample size, but in the past 5 years my LF has made an average of about 50 more outs than my RF. My park is -2 to LF and 0 to RF.

A LF will get about a half a chance more a game than a RF.

The results of your world/team may vary.

Unless we are looking in different spots, on average a LF will get 3.962 chances/game and a RF will get 2.906 chances per game. For the math challenged that would be just over 1 play per game, not a half chance.

That represents total chances by position in a game.

Since there are two of each position, you have to divide by two.

Sorry you are correct. I didn't look at the top line for outs/game otherwise I would have known it was for both teams. I assumed it was per 9 innings (27 outs) and not 54 outs.

So, that would be a primer for the reading challenged then?
