Offensive/Defensive Observations Topic

Just wanted to open a thread where coaches can clump their observations (not complaints) about how the new engine has affected the various offensive and defensive schemes.

I run motion offense and think distro works far better and is much more realistic and less "methodical". Defensively we run FCP, and I've seen a drastic change here.

Less turnovers and more fouls. The press doesn't have near the wearing effect it had before and seems to be more attribute than iq centered. It hasn't been near the weapon it was, but it needed tweaked. In our last game a sg dropped 30 against my far superior starter.

What are some of you seeing from M2M and Zone. Triangle, FB and Flex?

Not sure of how he had it set, jlay, but if you look at the play by play, it looks like that sg was playign as much or even more time at SF in that game, wherever he may have started it.  ON the player updat thingies he was almost always, other than the first one, at SF.

I hadn't read the play by play when I posted that, but you are correct.

I was hoping to garner observations on the various offenses and defenses much like the thread under the old system. Some user observations that will help others in their decision making and help make the game more fun and competitive for all as we grow together.

Well, I might have some at the conclusion of the season - still gathering data at the moment.  I have a Triangle team running and two motion teams.  On defense I have two Zone teams and a man to man.

How's the zone look in the new engine?

Well, one thing:  If your opponent has any capacity to shoot threes, you can kill yourself really quick with high minus zone defenses.  On the other hand, the three two zone seems almost a bit more viable.  And with the matchups in M@M, where player mismatches can cause headaches, it gives Zone more punch as a way to compensate if you have a few weak defenders,. . .

We press as of right now but I'm thinking of switching to a hcp/zone. Not sure yet if it's my iq and low post footspeed in the press or the new engine but we are getting killed defensively. Also I'm seeing a ton of fouls. Last night we got outshot from the line at home by 20 ft's. Have a 98 ath/96 spd/ 99 def sg that fouls way too much. I have 5-6 guys with good press iq and the rest at B- or lower, so I'm in that spot of do you push thru to see if it's better when iq's raise or do you make that move while it's still early to a hcp/zone. Figure the hcp will help while I work to build zone iq. Supposedly iq has less to do with success in the new engine but haven't played enough to tell yet.

I switched to a HCP/Man with Michigan State and it seems to be working better then the press.... with the press I needed to play 12 guys for it to work and even then it still wasnt that great, with the HCP/Man I can play 10 guys (Huge Plus) and it works pretty well.

Curious about this observation re: going heavy on minus defense settings.
I'm toying around with variations on the 2-3 and 3-2, including extreme +/- settings.  Too early to draw any conclusions, but if you've noticed a change in zone impact I'd be curious to hear it.

Likewise. Had a few good games using the three two, but I haven't been bold enough yet to go really heavy on the Plus part of the plus minus.  Might choose a game where I am severely outmatched just to see.
