taking advantage of man-to-man mismatches Topic

I'm looking down the road a little, and I'm curious if any of you coaches have figured out what a good speed difference would be in man-to-man to exploit.

Other than his speed, he is a relatively good defender (for DIII). My opponent is starting a Jr. SG with ath 62, spd 47, def 64, and an A in m2m IQ. My SG is my leading scorer this year, and has a 71 speed. My question being, would a speed difference of 24 points be high enough to exploit this match-up and hopefully see a positive result?

In my experience it depends what type of a defense he runs +/- wise.  If he plays a 0 or higher, than probably yes, if he plays a - defense, then probably not going to see a huge advantage at that spot(you might get a handful more trips to the line out of it though).  Given your opp also has relatively good good ath/def, solely the spd adv. isn't going to do a ton in my experience.

Others may agree/disagree.

Thats alot faster than his SG. With that much speed, he will have a hard time shuting you down. Your SG prolly wont put up big numbers, but wont get shut down either in that matchup. It also depends on your SG BH, and IQ.

wow apparently it was enough. I didn't raise his (Lewis) distro because I did not expect him to have such a stand-out game, but instead he shot 10-17 FG and 7-12 3-pt. So I guess in this new engine speed differences do play a large factor in man-to-man mismatches.

If anyone is curious about the results/game, here is the box score:

Starters' distro: Walker 13; Lewis 13; Beck 12; Noguera 9; Ortego 5

Also: since I know someone might point this out, I did notice Lewis played 8 minutes longer than their starting SG because of my uptempo offense and his 71 Stamina. However, their backup SG is also a solid (and faster) defender with B+ m2m IQ.
