Base Stealing Agressiveness Topic

I've got a young guy, up for the first time this year, who has 97 speed (but only 44 patience....tops out about 10 pts higher).  I would like him to be much more agressive in stealing bases but don't want to turn uup the whole teams agressiveness.  Can I do that?  Am I doomed?  Does hhis mediocre patience limit him as a swiper kind of guy?

Patience has nothing to do with base stealing. Given his speed, he will steel plenty with even an average base running aggressiveness--if you go a bit aggressive, you should still be ok. Your 10 speed guys wont steal much no matter what.

His baserunning ability will be the difference between him picking good times to run and stupid times. Guys with good speed and low baserunning ability still tend to get thrown out quite a bit.

Best bet is to make your settings conservative (as in DON'T run) and this guy will get 15-20 a season when there's a weak-armed C and no chance for him to screw up a big inning by trying (and failing) to steal 3rd with no outs.

mtd-- his baserunning is only 53, so he's going to get thrown out a lot.  I would be cautious in using him as a reason to increase my baserunning aggressiveness.

Yeah, I have seen guys with like 55 steals and 23 CS, and other guys with 67 steals and 3 CS, and their both 96 speed.  The difference is one has a 50 baserunningand the other has 94.

Or only tries to steal on noodle-armed 55/55 AS/AA catchers.

A guy who has 94 baserunning and 55 speed, against a noodle-armed 55/55 AS/AA catcher but 100 pitch calling = 4 consecutive pitchouts?
