Question about height Topic

Just noticed that a recruit I signed is listed as a small forward but is only 6'2". He's more of a low post player offensively than a perimeter player. Will his 6'2" frame hurt him in the low post or is height cosmetic and the ratings are the only thing that matter? Still trying to get a grip on HD so any help would be appreciated.

i've heard that height is already built into their ratings. if he has the ratings, no sweat.

This post has a rating of , which is below the default threshold.

So a 6'2" sf whose strength is in the low post is probably going to get his shot blocked more often than a 6'6" sf with identical ratings?

That is 100% not true, car_crazy.  Height has ZERO effect on gameplay.  A 5'3" SG with the exact same ratings as a 6'10" SG will, as both seble and Admin have said, act the same way in the engine.

If your short SF - actually, you have two - seems like he can play in the post, than he will play that way despite his height - maybe he's got great LP technique or body control, or maybe he's got great jumping ability, or maybe he's got the requisite upper body strength.  But height is already factored into the ratings, and it's just cosmetic.

Cool, thanks for clearing that up.

Well then what factors into getting your shot blocked? Low Post+Perimeter?

It just doesn't make sense to me that a 5'5, 100 PER, 100 LP player and a 7'2, 100 PER, 100 LP player would get blocked the same amount of times by a 7'2 player with a 99 ATH, 99 BLK.

You're right, it doesn't make sense, but it's the way HD is built.  Just like a 6' PG with identical ratings to a 7'2" C would perform the same at all 5 positions as the other would.

the posted height is basically window dressing.  it means nothing.  the ratings have already taken height into account.

The 100 PER/100lp 5'5" player is actually more offensively skilled.  The 7'2" player is less skilled but makes up for it by being tall.

Would be a way to look at it.

But what if there was a 7'2 player who was as skilled as the 5'5 player? He could then have like a 150 PER/200 LP. That's why I think height should not be accounted for in ratings.

I think the way it works, though, the tall player is almost always going to have a better low post rating anyway.
