ok, i have a certain player iam locked on, this player is perfect for what iam trying to do. unfortunatly he is 930 miles away from me. He isnt a "standout" as far as overall goes (less than 405 OVR). What do you think my chances are of landing him and how much should i expect to spend. I am a C- DIII school. Thanks.

I wouldn't do it unless you have a lot of practice doing it.     In my DIII experience, even with A+ I stayed within 300 miles.

what are his ratings?

It's been stated that recruiting at D3 is more national then any other level because there are more recruits and since people have less money they avoid battles and this is definitely true. On my California based D3 team I have players from North Dakota, Vermont, Kansas, Florida, Minnesota, Arizona, Alaska, Missouri and 2 from Arkansas. I only have 3 players from California. So 9 of my 12 players are from at least 500 miles away and many of them are over 1500 miles away. This past season I signed 4 recruits all were at least 1500 miles away. So yea, go after him, just try to spend as little as possible.

hmm, ok. I think iam gonna try it then. unfortunatly ALL the player i really like are 500+ away...i hate geography...lol

Long distance recruiting @D3 is doable as long as you avoid battles...go for non-considering guys, don't fight for them unless you've budgeted well and the other team is also long distance.

ok, I have 2 open spots and iam willing to take a walkon if i need to. My next question is if i DO get in a battle for him is it possible to win him over a higher prestige and/or closer proximity school if i dump significantly more money into him?

Don't do it.  It's not worth it 80% of the time.

Don't battle, unless his priority is far from home, even then don't do it unless you have a significant money advantage. Also actual money spent is irrelavant is all about effort. If you're far away and CVs cost about 2k and you spend 6k by doing 3 of them all that matters is value of the 3 CVs not the 6k spent. So if somebody who is close to him does 4 CVs for 850 each that'll be 3400 and eventhough you spent a lot more money they will have done more effort. And when I say significant money advantage I mean you have 6 open ships and they only have 2.

I agree with kmason on this one

Yep gotta agree with kmason here as well. The only time I battle at the DIII level is if  I know I have the battle in the bag.

Many coaches have targeted their players by the 5 p.m. on signing day. If he's still available then, you're likely to have less competition. But, if he's as good as you claim, don't count on him not being taken by a neighboring school
