informing of redshirt Topic

Has anyone had success with informing a recruit of redshirting? I personally have not used it but considering trying it.

I think I'm a rarity in that I've NEVER used the "redshirt button,' pedroia - many coaches do use it.  Just send a bunch of CVs and HVs the recruit's way at the same time as (or just after) using the inform option.  Unless you're in a battle for the recruit, you should be fine.

Only use it after the recruit is already considering you and you only. I send a phone call, letter, a couple of HVs and maybe a CV along with the inform of R/S. I may be extremely lucky but I have always gotten them to take it. Ignore any emails you get that are negative. If the player is still considering you after you offered the R/S, he will take the R/S without complaining and without any WE drop.

what weena describes works, unless the recruit is of very high quality - top 25 at his position.  I also think that at lower divisions it may still fail if the kid is a reach for your prestige level

you can always take it off - but then it is just about impossible to redshirt the kid after you inform that you will NOT redshirt

I always use the inform of redshirt/no redshirt because I offer promises to get em to consider me, then need to erase them and don't have much worse of a time to get em to accept it. The current guy on my caldwell team who is redshirting I told him inform of no redshirt, but he took it the first try. However, If I only have 1 player coming in and I know I need him to redshirt I'll give him a few extra visits/phone calls with inform of redshirt so I know he'll take it 100%

thanks guys, great idea to bury it with the home visit, campus etc...maybe they could add a party with a bubbleheaded cheerleader to guarantee the recruit will still sign

Just tried to inform a guy to redshirt and bury it with some HVs  and he didn't approve and took me off his considering list.  If I inform of NO reshirt, will he go back to considering me or do I need to apply further actions to get him to consider me again?

You just need to throw out like a call. I've never had a guy not take it, but anytime a player went undecided on me just a call worked to get em back.

furry, if you've never had a guy not take it, then how did you have a guy go undecided after being informed?

If a guy stops considering you because he's ****** about the inform of RS, he won't start considering you again with just a phone call. You generally will need to inform of no RS.

I've never tried to make them inform of redshirt without wanting him to take it. I use inform of redshirt to guys I don't want, and force them to go undecided, but any guy I did inform of redshirt for the real reason has never stopped considering me. The only time I had a guy go undecided on me that I wanted was A SF who  I pulled the scholarship on and the next cyce a phone call got him back, so I'd imagine its the same with inform of no redshirt to get him back.

I informed of NO redshirt and added a phone call and he did consider me again.  Thanks for the tips!

They always take it as long as your throw some extra effort at them. Last time I recruited I informed of RS and did 2 HVs with it and got taken off his list but then got back on the next cycle after a few more visits and then he commited and accpeted the RS no problem when he showed up.

in D3 I had a guy considering me at about $1100.  I sent a inform of redshirt along with 2 home visits and he stopped considering me.   I kept sending home visits and campus visits until I was up to $5500.   He was not considering anyone throughout this entire process.
Finally as the signings grew closer I sent the will not redshirt note and he started considering me and signed during the first cycle.

After he signed I gave him a redshirt and he accepted it fine.  Nice waste of $4500 at D3.
