I have the ability to put a very good passing team on the court, but have been playing uptempo. If I slow down the tempo will it lead to more chances to make good passes?

As I understand it, tempo relates to how much time you burn off the shot clock and has nothing to do with the quality of passes or shots.

If you're slowing the ball down, looking for better shots, it necessarily relates to quality of shots, doesn't it?

I think with regard to the engine, the engine is not 'looking' for better quality shots, it's burning clock to limit your opponent's possessions.

I understood that the slow down was greatly reduced in effect during the engine change though.

I find it odd that in the NBA sim tempo also effects TOs/FG%, but it doesn't here.

Huh.  I didn't understand it to be a four corners-type offense, but a more controlled, looking-for-the-best-shot offense.  Obviously you want to slow the pace and limit possessions, too, but I understood it that your team would be more willing to take a bad shot the faster tempo you play.

I certainly could be wrong; I usually am.

The player's guide and faq  make no mention of the slowdown tempo having any other effect aside from limiting the opponent's possessions and the tendency to generate more assists. It mentions nothing about increasing the quality of the shot generated.

I guess I just assumed that if you are taking your time, you're going to take the best available shot during the 35 seconds.

i am not really sure how tempo has translated into the new engine.

however, in the old engine, the effects absolutely were not limited to just the effect on the clock. for example, an uptempo team's fg% were impacted significantly. there were two mitigating factors. on one hand, the increase in tempo resulted in more fast break ops, which are higher % shots. on the other hand, the hurrying resulted in poorer shot selection in the half court, which caused lower fg% in that case. depending on the two teams, this could mean fg% could increase slightly (usually not too much), or decrease significantly (usually a lot more than it could increase).

This really gives me my answer. If slowing the ball down leads to a "tendency to generate more assists" then it would benifit a team that can pass the ball well and should lead to better shots. Thanks to every one for their input...as usual you guys are awesome!
