One of my conference mates told me that a coach had been busted before for giving a player boosters, put on probation and still won the National Championship that season. Is this possible or is he mistaken? Just doesn't sound right. Maybe the first time is just a slap on the wrist? If this is possible then why not give it a shot if you can land a difference maker and still compete for a title. This is in D2 if that makes any difference.

Probation means a postseason ban so Its not possible he may win the next season after the porbation is lifted but your not even allowed to play in the ct.

That is not correct. Auburn in Naismith just went to the second round of the NT on probabtion. I think there are different levels of punishment depending upon the nature of the infraction.

Incorrect.  You can be on probation and still compete in the postseason.  To be banned from the postseason, it will say specifically that you aren't allowed to play in postseason games.  I've seen several teams who were on probation who participated in postseason tournaments.

In fact, in the PIT in Wooden, my first round opponent (Xavier) is on probation (played two days ago), but still was able to play in a postseason tourney.

yep.  he crushed me too.  my coaches rep went to a D- and my prestige dropped from C to D+ and i don't get any extra postseason recruiting cash for next  year, but i was able to play the conf tourney as well as the PIT.  for the record, i gave plane tickets and money to 2 recruits that signed with other teams.  boosters were complaining and i lost out on my 2 biggest recruits, took a chance as i had nothing to lose.  funny thing is i think the boosters stopped complaining since i made the PIT...
