I rejoined Smith after a few dozen seasons off and need to ask this:

The team I inherited, Montana St., runs a FB, but pretty much sucks across the board in other sets.  What do other coaches run when up big late?  Does a "slowdown" FB work even though it's contradictory?  Or do I pick the least sucky secondary set (Triangle I guess) and run that at slowdown?

I would just run FB at a Normal pace....unless you practice another offense you are likely to turn it over. At least at Normal your guys would run something they know and get a positive result a good % of the time. Also, the engine goes into Spread in the last minute anyways. Just my .02 from running FB/FCP at D2.

Thanks for your input worthy!

I'm attempting to build a FB team at Air Force in Smith, and it sucks. Hard. Speed, it turns out, is one attribute that the new engine hasn't randomized very much among recruits. If you want a fast team (by D1 standards), you have to be able to land high-level recruits. Even if you're willing to ignore just about everything else, in the recruits I've looked at only the top-level guys have good speed, particularly outside of the guard positions.
