Better promoting to ML before or after rollover? Topic

So my season is done on all levels.  What is the benefit/penalty to promoting a minor league player to the major league roster now vs after the rollover and before next season starts if I have no doubt at all that they will be on the opening day roster?

None, except possibly triggering a promotion report - which would show up after rollover anyway. 

If you do promote a minor leaguer to the ML squad you'd increase his salary to $327K at the promotion and $343K next season. So you'll cost yourself a ~$16K next year.

why does the player get bumped up from 327 to 343 if they don't have a year of service?

also - do you get a promotion bump as well as a rollover bump on their ratings?

I wouldn't promote a guy to the majors before rollover.  If he's in AAA and on the 40 he won't retire unless he's in his 30's and has a lot of minor league years.

I would wait until after spring training for this this reason: if he gets injurued during spring training, you wouldn't want him to start earning major league service time from the DL.

"Physical" ratings (power, range, arm strength, durability, stamina, etc.) only get bumped during rollover.  "Skill" ratings (glove, arm accuracy, contact, splits, eye, control, pitches, etc.) only get bumped in-season.
