How can this team underachieve so much? Topic

I'll go with 2 posts about myself today since if you read the other post I can only access the forums.

Look at this team http://www.whatifsports.com/hd/TeamProfile/Ratings.aspx?tid=7424  I came into the season ranked #5 and was up to #3 at some point. I know pre-season rankings aren't worth much, but I was expecting to be a final 4 contendor. What I have instead is a video game version of this  year's Texas team, now I am on the bubble for the NT. I have the players, my SOS wasn't very hard, why is my team 16-8?

I have 2 preseason All americans, my PG is going to be CPOY, my C is probably going to be CDPOY, yet I'm just dropping a ton of games. Granted my conference is much better this season than in seasons past, but clearly I have underperformed.

I don't know that I can tweak much, but I'm interested to see why people think this team has been such a bust.

Most of your losses have been close and your PG is averging almost 4 TOs a game.  That could be the difference in almost all the games you lost.

Ya the PG Turnovers are really bothering me, he is so good yet he has more turnovers than assists. I was thinking because he is scoring so much it is leading to more TO's but even when I turned down his distro it kept happening.

I guess I'm even surprised at being in so many close games, I really expected more out of the team.

ONly two losses against teams that weren't "Tournament RPI"(68 or less) One of those against 77 was on the road. So, really, only one 'bad' loss.

Ya that is the frustrating thing, I guess I'm just mad that I've lost just about every tough game I played. last year I had the same team (only graduated 1 SR) and we had 3 losses all year including in the tourney. I just don't know why my team won't win some of the hard games this year. Just frustrating

Other than the PG TOs, you're giving up some good shooting games to your opponents.  In 5 of your 7 losses, you've let the other team shoot over 50%:  .583, .510, .522, .509, .600.  High TOs and giving up a lot of baskets is going to lose you a lot of games.  Your frontcourt players seem to have some low Def IQs, perhaps that's been enough for other teams to beat your zone by just enough this season.

Maybe your were a little bit lucky last year and a little bit unlucky this year too.

i see one glaring problem. how is it that your best overall player chenier is hardly starting most of the season and when he is starting, not getting the bulk of the shots? i look at that fairmont game and roll my eyes. chenier had such a HUGE advantage over his starting sg, he has to take more shots then what he did.

in your last game your positioning was a little too weak. the guy hardly ever shoots a three and it just screamed -5 or -4.

skunk I don't start Chenier because he serves well as a SG and SF so I have him play backup for both which gets him 20 minutes a game. while letting Richards and Jones see good time too.  The reason I didn't start him is mostly because I don't want Sawinsky my sophmore SF seeing many minutes, if I have Chenier starting then Sawinsky sees the floor more. But then again maybe you are right and I cost myself all those close games by only giving him 20 minutes when he could see way more. I think I valued Richards too high most of the season.

I think the problem there is having so much talent that it is hard to let him get more than he is getting. He is my 3rd leading scorer, but I wouldnt say he is better than Dinardo or Stewart who are the only 2 guys scoring more than him.

know my last opponent doesn't shoot a lot of 3's, but his 3 leading scorers are a PG, SG and SF which is why I went with the -3 instead of the -5. In our first game I only lost by 1 so it seemed like a good position.

if he doesn't start and the game is close then he won't see the court as often. ...........also he is easily your best player.

yep, chenier should play more. his percentages show that. huge threat. i would start him anyway or at the very least, give him big distro off the bench. You have lost a lot of close games and that would make me want Chenier in the game even more. In those close ones, I sure want my best player on the court to make something happen.

And I do think if you pulled a bigger sample size and gave less distro to Dinardo, his TOs would decrease. I would start Chenier and give more distro to him and less to Dinardo and over time, you will see his TOs go down and Chenier %s go up.

Chenier is not "easily your best player."  Skunk likes to exagerate.  Should he start?  Probably, but to say that is your issue oversimplifies whatever is going on.
