i thought i could figure out this game a bit on my own - but after a season and a half - i have been proven wrong.

My goal was to make my team competitive by the end of season 3. (it was one of the worst when I took over, I picked it cause I grew up in illinois)

I'm running the FB/Press for 2 reasons. First, that's what was there when I took over. Second, I went to Mizzou, and love that style of play.

I'm asking for help on several fronts.

First, thoughts on my recruiting so far. I know i picked a couple bad guys, but i went for upside more than anything (as proven by my freshmen PG and PF).

Second, what type of players should i go after next year in recruiting?

Third - should i change my offensive and defensive scheme?

Fourth - what should i do right now to make this team competitive for the rest of the season?

fifth - in GD high portential guys are really valuable, you wait until seniors or RSSR and then they dominate, is that a bad strategy in HD?

Your team is just not very talented. Its ok we've all been there starting out. I would suggest reading through the Hoops 101 thread at the top of the forum. Look at the top 10 teams in your world and you will see the kind of skills your guys need to be competitive. When recruiting, target drop downs from D2...they will start to come down in your recruiting view about a day after the recruiting period starts. You can be successful running the FB/Press but you need to be sure that you are recruiting the right guys for it -high speed, BH, PA. Also, potential is very big in HD as well so make sure you know the upside on a player before signing him. GL.

use the future stars scouting.............get players that excel in ath and spd. look for players who have high ratings in both (hard to do) or have avg rating in one of those categories and a high rating in another..........u need players with good stamina, because your offense and defense are the type that drain energy quickly. ..........i'd give you a thumbs up for the freshman pg although i'd like to see his potential. the pf is not so good because big guys need athleticism more then good speed stats, but the combo of the two is even better. whats important for all recruits .........ath, spd, and in your case stamina........avoid players with key category stats that are too low (below 15) but have high potential.........such as a pg needs good bh or pass, but he is rated a 10 in pass and you see a high potential rating, don't get suckered into believing that passing stat will rise quickly..........also don't get boxed into the idea that you have to get a sf recruit to play sf......... a fast pf with lower reb skills could do that or a sg/pg with good reb could do that.........pg can be shooting guards........centers can be pf.....power forwards can be centers.......

best starting lineup (slowdown)
centers - parmer, loar, nielson, snavely
pf - landers, nielson, loar, snavely
sf - coyle, carlson, hill
sg - sakamato, fulbright, carlson
pg - elliott, gray, fulbright

give most shots to your best players........who are...in order.......sakamato, coyle, carlson, and parmer.............give LOW distro to your worst players like snavely, hill, elliott..

if you have any specific questions send me a sitemail.

i thought you'd rank hill higher because of his really high PE for DIII...
gray and snavley are all high or stl across the board in potential. that's why i took both, thinking by their junior and senior years they'll be decent starters.

thanks for the tips.

I think Hill's a solid player for just starting out in DIII, trobone - use him heavily at SG.
