Can this guy be a good shortstop in the ML? Topic

Good contact, a little pop but not the best splits.  I'd only play him against righties but would he hit enough to be in the ML?

Still a little room to grow too.

Right now, no.

What does he project to (defensively and offensively)

He doesn't gain too much on hitting a few more contact, a couple more power, 1 up vs. righties and a couple up on eye.  Glove he looks to gain some on all 4 categories.  He'll be able to field at ss in the ML, i was just wondering if that righty split was too low.

If his glove is going to improve, let it improve in AAA.  He'd be an average SS defensively in the ML this year.  When you bring him up, it won't be for his bat.

Ditto. Even then, what he takes away defensively probably doesn't = what you lose offensively.

Here's some better advice:

Never take advice from dude's with records like this:  1323-1593 (0.454)

But, about your player, he's good enough to play SS.   But, unless he adds 5 more points in each fielding rating, he isn't going to hit well enough to be an average SS.

I know bad hitting! Listen to me!

Thanks for the help.

he reminds me of http://whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?pid=676396  .  if so, i've been kind of happy having him around

He has 87 contact and 67 power.  He can hit enough to play SS.  No problem.  However....He's a marginal fielder. But with that said, he's as good a glove guy as Rivera, your backup MLB SS and basically the same as Anderson, your $5M+ MLB SS starter.  You can try to shop Anderson and start him.  He not much worse than our CF and 2B guys with the bat.  If  you're happy with Anderson, then start your guy in AAA.  If you feel you need a bit more pop in the lineup then replace Anderson
You have Anderson for this season and next.....you might just  go with him and get your guy all the starts you can and get a great AAA fielding coach.

All the same....87 contact means he's going to hit the ball a bunch....67 power means some of them will get out of the park.  He ain't THAT bad! You could live with him.

Anderson overperformed last year, btw.

Oh, gosh, yes, this guy plays.  When he gets his contact into the mid 90s and bumps all his other ratings 2-3 points, he's going to hit about .250/.290/.420, be a slightly above-average SS, and pick 16-17 bags out of 20 attempts.  He's not going to win a GG or be an All-Star, and I wouldn't want to pay him what he'll want in his second season of arb, but you can do a LOT worse than pay this guy $327K and use your cash elsewhere.

I HOPE YOU READ THIS BECAUSE IT'S IMPORTANT!!! I keep looking at this guy to try to get an idea of what I really think of him and I saw one very disturbing number. "24" patience. You can't guess with this guy. If you send him to the majors and he doesn't work out you are screwed. Because sending him back down to AAA at that point will probably cause a substantial ratings drop. You could ruin him. Leave him in AAA. He's a good SS who may perform at the ML level this year but I wouldn't chance it. I've been screwed too many times because I ignored the possibility that I might have to send a guy back down.

I sent a defensive catcher to AAA this year and then had to call him back up. What ticks me off is that his pitch calling dropped from 90 to 88 and I bet it never comes back. You have to be careful with some guys. I never seemed to learn that but I hope someone does. LOL
