Where would you play them? Topic

I've got the following players:

          R     G     AS     AA
1.     82     85     73     73
2.     87     74     58     61
3.     76     81     84     77
4.     92     87     55     56

I need to fill CF, 2B, 3B, and RF.  They are all righties.

Right now, I have 1 at 2b, 2 in RF, 3 at 3b, and 4 in CF.  I'd be interested in hearing anyone's ideas on doing it differently.

I would go 1 at 3B, 2 in CF, 3 in RF, and 4 at 2B.

i know range is important in CF, but isn't a good arm important too? Wouldn't 1 make the best overall CF?

In my experiences with HBD, range and glove are much more important in CF than arm is.

You've got to be joking.

+1

If you want to look at it vaguely scientifically, I whipped up a quickie Excel sheet scoring each player at each position. Their scores are the total of their ratings minus the recommended minimums for each position, with extra weight given to Range and Glove at CF (x3 and x2) and 2B (x2 and x2):

RNG GLV AA AS   2B 3B CF RF
1 82 85 73 73   50 35 12 63
2 87 74 58 61   11 17 -22 30
3 76 81 84 77   45 29 1 68
4 92 87 55 56   39 30 11 40

2 is RF by default, since he's weak at any other spot. 1 and 4 rate about equal in CF but 1 is better at 2B. Which leaves 3 at 3B.

I think strikeout has it correct.  you would have Gold Glove caliber 3B and 2B guys.  A RF with a great glove, great arm, and adequate range...and a CF who has great range but a not great glove.  If you have a SS who can pick it you would have a superior IF.  I'ld be very tempted to do that.

I'd play #2 in LF, not right because he'd get more chances.

I think the key is the sacrifice that would be made at 2B for that move. But yes I agree somewhat. You won't get many CF assists. But I'd rather have a stud at 2B then CF simply because a 2B normally gets more plays. And I also agree that range and glove are more important than arm in CF. I totally agree with the way he has it. That's what I would do. Of course I will also play bad defensive catchers at 1B if they hit well enough. LOL

By the way... I recently returned to the game so something may have changed but I think the fact that they are all righties is cosmetic to the game engine. I don't think having a left handed 2B or SS kills you in this game like it can in real life. Maybe in the time I was gone they made a change but it used to be cosmetic.

You'll see a lot of negative plays from a left handed 2B or SS

Yeah, I don't know what it was like before Jan. 31, 2009, but now playing a lefty at 2B, 3B, or SS will kill you. They are simply awful, as they should be.
