Which do you prefer?

It depends on where I'm drafting and what I'm hoping to draft.

Sorry, I was unclear.  It was more of a long-term budgeting question.

I think what you are going to find is basically two schools of thought. A) go all in on one and forget the other or B) fairly balanced with slight favoring to one side or the other which can change on a season by season basis.

I fall into the B camp. so this year i might go 15/11 highschool/college, next season that might flip to 14/14 depends as i say on where I'm drafting and what I'm hoping to draft.

I fall into the A camp. I usually go for 0 in HS scouting and high in college. To me, you can either see all the prospects with mediocre projections, or see half the prospects with excellent projections. Since the only thing that really matters is getting players who project to be good, I believe you have a better chance to have more efficiently successful drafts if you maximize projection accuracy. I guess you could also go high in both categories but then it would take years to ween yourself off one or the other when you're trying to save money down the road.

I'm more of a B camp guy, however I'll skew it towards which I need more. If I have an older team that may retire or diminish (ability-wise) soon, I'll lean towards college because they should be closer to the majors. If my ML team is relatively young, I'll skew towards HS because I can afford more time for them to develop.

One thing to look at it is what other owners in your league have done. If no one has $20M for college for example, then if you were to have $20M for college, you'd have an advantage in the draft.

In my league, I'm the only owner with $20M for college. Last season, drafting in the 20s, got a 20-yo SP who was good enough that I made him my #5 SP this season. He's held his own.
