Minor league pitching question Topic

Since stamina is a big thing for pitchers in the minors, is there any reason NOT to fill up your minor league rosters with high stamina pitchers, assuming these players have no chance of making the majors? For example, it doesn't seem to make any sense to use low stamina pitchers in the minors UNLESS they are major league prospects, as you are wasting a slot with low stamina. Does this logic make any sense to more experience players?

In the minors, it is best to have 4-5 extra pitchers inactive, with at least 2 able to start (for long relief/extra starters).  Durability and stamina work together with the pitch limits for availability, so either keep pitch counts low (and carry extra active pitchers) or switch tired active for an inactive every cycle.

well, I suppose it comes down to philosophy.  If you care about winning in the minors (or simply fielding a competitive squad for the level), you would want the best pitchers you can get, be they SPs or RPs.

If you simply care about filling innings, you would get whatever high STA/DUR arms you can find, no matter how bad they are.  But the funny thing is that if you don't care how bad they are, why care at all?  Why not just trot out whatever non-propects you have sitting around, even if they pitch at 0(0)?

Of course, an "effective" low-STA RP may end up pitching more innings than a horrible high-STA SP.  Doesn't matter how many pitches you can throw if you can't get guys out.

Point being, there is no "shortcut" to the minors.  If you care even a little bit, you will never have fatigue problems by managing your inactives every couple of days.  If you want to just set it up and forget about it, then let the 0(0) guys throw their tired arms off.
