What drives Off Season Development?? Topic

Is this a factor of Coaching?

Is it a factor of the Training Budget?

Is it a factor of the player's own Make-Up rating?

Does position play a part?

OR is it just plain old luck?

I would suspect it's an "All of the Above" type thing, but is there a factor or factors that are the most important?

In one world that just rolled over to a new season and we just started Spring Training. It was posted in the message board the biggest jumps in off season development. Now the world had 5 position prospects listed, that jumped 8 overall points but the highest off season jump for a pitcher was 3??!! I've been noticing this a lot recently... positional players getting far greater off season jumps than pitchers. Kind of curious why?

I believe it's mostly training. The changes that happen during the offseason only occur in certain categories (like power, stamina, range, and durability). Those categories, I believe, are all affected by training.

Training, make-up and ACTUAL potential.

So why such huge difference between the Positional Guys and Pitchers?

Maybe this particular world, it's just a matter of the quality of the pitching prospects that have been drafted or IFAs..

ACTUAL potential.

Plus pitchers develop differently.   Position players are largely done after 4 seasons.   Pitchers might develop into their 30s.

Ok that makes sense. Also explains another query I've had. It seems that by the time they have done a year in AAA my positional guys are pretty much ready (well ready as they ever will be) for the ML squad. Whereas my pitching prospects, even after 2 seasons in AAA... they are still only marginal for the ML squad.

Actually that is realistic very few pitchers fastrack to the ML level and even the ones that are, can be great for a couple of games and suck the next 2 (generalizing here but still..)

thanks that explains a lot.
