In my minors I have 2 first basemen that I'm curious about. Both are in High A and project to 97+ power and 97+ eye.
Both also have 0 contact. I play in St. Louis (a pitcher's park).

One projects to mid 60's versus righties and 30's versus lefties. So obviously he'll be horrible against lefties but how well would he do against righties?

The other projects to 53/54 splits.

These guys were late round draft picks so its not like I have anything invested in them.

I don't think either is going to hit quite enough to justify being a starting 1B.  Platoon guy might hit something like .220/.320/.500 against RHP, which is useful at any other position but not really moving you towards a championship at 1B.  Other guy is a bit worse than that.

I could be wrong, but don't think I am, in saying that contact rating doesn't effect batting average. It just tells you his groundout/strikeout ratio. If he's slow, then his low contact rating is a good thing. He won't hit into so many double plays. I'd say both players are plus players. A margin better than what the previous poster projected.

I'm pretty sure you should be able to find better for cheap in FA.  The two players you list are at-best AAA players in my book.

Contact clearly will effect batting average.  If you can't hit the ball, you'll strikeout more and lower your average.
