Max Contract Free Agent Question Topic

We have a 91 OVR starting pitcher that is going free agent next season. He will be 29 and by the history of bids in this world i expect him to go 20 million for 5 years plus a 20 mill bonus. I'm interested if anyone knows what happens if two teams put in that same bid.

Does anyone know the tie breaker? I would assume either best record or first to offer.

I realize things like no trade clauses and options change contracts. So let's just assume both offers are identical. Anyone ever seen that?

Max is $20MM for 5 years plus a $10MM bonus, but the team's record the previous year as well as ballpark effects (pitcher will prefer to go to a pitcher's park) have an effect on where he'll choose to sign.  And I could be wrong on this last one, but patience and makeup may effect whether or not he goes back to his original team.

pitching coach.  Get the best one available and hope that anyone else willing to go max offer doesn't have a better pitching coach

I thought max was a 20 mill bonus. i've been away for awhile. Is that correct? Is it 10 million? I took like 2-3 years away from this game so that's why I don't know.

$20 mil x 5 years plus $10 mil bonus + no trade clause is max offer

i believe the guy will go to whichever team had the better record the previous season or whichever team has the best overall ratings currently

Cool, I have the best record now but honestly probably won't win the series cause I don't have a stud pitcher. I think the max bonus used to be 20Mill but i wouldn't swear to that. Anyway 10 mill is more doable. I've already got that much clear for next season.

Does anyone else dislike the fact their is a max?  Not so much on contact, as that could cripple a team with the wrong owner, but on bonus wheres it only affecting year 1

Straight from the FAQ knowledge base...
"When a free agent has multiple exact offers of any value at the ML level the tiebreakers are as follows: relevant IQs of the coaching staff and ballpark. If the players previous franchise is also bidding on him, then that franchise will receive a small loyalty bonus. When the coaching staff is used to break the tie position players will look at the hitting IQ of the hitting coach and the fielding IQ of the fielding coach. Pitchers will look at the pitching IQ of the pitching coach and the bullpen coach. In cases where the offers are still tied and the coaching staff has been factored in ballpark is used to determine which franchise the player will sign with. Pitchers always want to pitch in a pitchers park, while position players will always want to play in a hitters park. "

Says nothing about previous years record.

previous season's record doesn't matter.  It should, IMHO, but it doesn't.

20X5 + 10 million bonus + no trade + Player option is actually the complete max.

The no-trade offer - and perhaps the player option as well, though I don't have proof of that - do not actually increase the value of the max offer to the player unless he requests it.

If the guy says nothing about demanding a no-trade clause, then $20Mx5 + $10M (+player option) = $20Mx5 + $10M + No-Trade Clause (+ player option).

true dat. i forgot about the player option. mostly cause i'll never give one. i'd rather give a no trade clause (which i almost never do)

Hopefully I will be ok on the pitching coaches because that's within my control. Unfortunately playing in Boise may hurt a little. It's not like Santa Fe but most parks in our league are more pitcher friendly. Thanks guys.

I hired a lawer, in Villa Park, IL, back in 1998, named Max Contract

You should never check the NTC box, because if it's not default to "yes," the guy doesn't care.
