did i bring this guy up too early? 22 years old, in his 5th pro season

Current - 83 contact, 63 power, 67 vsl, 83 vsr, 67 eye

performance through 267 ab: .243 .302 .393 .695

I play in Safeco, but c'mon!

He is just having a down season, it may come up some by the end of the year. But I have noticed the guys who have ratings in the 60's are the types that vary season to season greatly

He's about 10 singles short of what I would expect from him in Safeco. That's just bad luck; it should get better.

Also, you didn't bring him up too early if .280/.340/.430 helps your team-- that's what I would expect of him, and in his 5th pro season he's not going to improve much if at all whether he's in the minors or majors.

He doesn't outright stink, he's just limited.  At $327K he's an OK platoon 1B, and he's the good side of the platoon; it's not hard to find a lefty-mashing 1B to pair with him.  However, playing him every day does not help you win a WS, and I would release him rather than go to 2nd-year arb with him-- he's not THAT good a platoon player.

I dunno- I'd probably just stash him in AAA and use him for injury insurance...it's just so easy to do better than that without wasting 2 roster spots on a platoon.

He's 83 eye and 83 vR with 15 (give or take) HR power.  He ain't bad.

But he's not great.  The big factors with him will be projections and makeup.  I would assume he still has room to grow and if he has decent makeup he'll probably get there.  Right now he's decent and cheap and yours.  That has value somewhere.

Just checked him out.  He made significant growth between this year and last...and I would assume he still has a number of points to grow in Contact and vR.  If he gets to 86 or 87 contact and vr....he will have distinct value.  Safeco mostly creams power hitters doesn't it?  He will lose some taters...but I would think he would hit pretty well, anyway.  You might platoon him with a lefty masher.....But all the same, right now he OK and he'll get better.

Most growth (barring injury or inept management) is done in the first 4-5 seasons.

Bringing him up now shouldn't impact his ratings or performance.
