Most career at-bats without a homerun Topic

Gregory Curtis is going on 4421 AB's (1370 Minors, 3051 Majors) without ever hitting a homerun.  I'm beginning to doubt he has ever hit one in his entire life.   In fact in the last 4 seasons he has 256 AB with 4 extra base hits.  Is there anyone out there with less?

Ricky Roberts has 5155 AB's (2275 Minors, 2880 Majors) without ever hitting a home run. Roberts does have 86 extra base hits (56 2B and 30 3B)  though in this 2880 big league at bats. I see players all the time hitting inside the park home runs, in fact i think there are far too many, but they are true power hitters that aren't fast at all. My guy whose a speed demon can't even get 1; that's kind of crazy. I would think he would hit 1 ball in the gap or that a player dives and misses and he can just run. Apparently not...

I have never seen a player with power= 0 hit a homer. Inside-the-park is apparently decided by the Sim after the HR is decided.

If power decides inside the park home runs, WIS needs to fix that.

I submitted a ticket because I was curious...I'll post the response here.

Really this thread is basically just "Who has given the most at-bats to a guy with 0 power?"

0 power does not necessarily = 0 home runs. They're just the least likely to hit one.

You know, that would make sense, and that's what I assumed for several seasons.  And if you show me example of a player with 0 power with a HR, I'll believe you.  I've just never seen one.

Damn. I'm parrotting the dev chat, but you might have a point. I'm on a mission now.

Well, 1 seems to get you ~ 1HR every 1000 AB, so 0....if it does get you anything, you may have to play 15 years before you win the lottery.

Even if they never had the power to get it out of the infield on the fly, someone with a speed and baserunning ability at 100 with power at 0 should hit an inside the park homerun at least once in a lifetime.

apparently I wasn't clear enough in asking my question:

Can a guy with a zero power rating but 100 for speed and baserunning ratings ever hit an inside-the-park homerun?

Yes, it's possible as there are inside the park homeruns in HBD.

and then the real response from CS

Alan,

What you are asking is possible. It would be about as common as any other type of ITPHR. One or two per world per season.

I did player search in MG, and there are 11 guys in the majors or AAA with zero power ... no career HRs for any of them.  Here are the MiLB/MLB ABs for each

1,850 / 2,670
2,245 / 3,072
2,214 / 452
2,067
4,189 / 230
2,108
4,595 / 771
2,498
2,811
3,079 / 1910
2,191 / 5,140

soooo, 45,000 ABs with no HRs

This is the latest in the string of questions I've been sending regarding this issue...

9/27/2010 3:16 PM bigal888
Do the power/speed/baserunning/ballpark ratings affect the rate at which a player could hit ITPHR? Or is it something that is decided based solely on statistics? (ie every homerun hit in a world has a 0.05% chance of being an ITPHR regardless of the player)
9/27/2010 3:31 PM Customer Support
Alan,

It has more to do with the ballpark, speed, and baserunning than any percent chance.
9/27/2010 4:55 PM bigal888
Thanks for the information. Out of curiosity, are you able to pull what percentage of 0 power rated guys have hit a ITPHR? And is it even possible for someone with a 0 power rating to hit a regular HR?
