Need help with distro for triangle offense Topic

Trying to set up distro between my PG, SG, and PF to best maximize the triangle. If I have a pass-only PG, should I set his distro lower so that he won't shoot as much or higher so that the ball is in his hands more?

distro relates to # of shots, not how much you have the ball in your hands in non-shooting situations. i would put a pass-only pg at low distro. also the triangle doesn't really tie distro to the triangle concept, you are best off just to have your best players take as many shots as you can.

Could you explain more about how the engine "doesn't really tie distro to the triangle concept..."? I'm just curious why the engine would do this in triangle, if anything, I would see this being the case more so for motion.

well, there used to be a lot of talk about whether you should give a lot more distro to 3 players on the floor together in the triangle - the thinking being that the 3 players in the triangle being stronger players would make a more efficient offense, and that the players in the triangle where themselves able to score better than if they were 2 players outside of the main triangle. but i dont hear much of that anymore, maybe because over time people seemed to agree that was not true.

Okay, cool, I see what you were getting at. Thanks for the speedy reply, haha.

I'm having fun using the triangle but never set distro based on it. Instead I just give the older players more shots which is another way of saying I give the higher OFF IQ players more shots. In a way, assuming fairly even class sizes, you end up with 3 seniors which works out as a triangle. I usually set my distro as follows:
FR: 0    SO:1     JR:2      SR:4

with the high degree of variance in the offensive capabilities of players these days, i have to strongly recommend not doing it this way. not a bad place to start but generally you should have the best and world players (offensively) in the same class differ by a factor of 2 or more on the distro page.

I agree billyg. I always dislike the phrase common sense 'cause it can be different things to different people. But HD sort of requires common sense. I mean, I got a stud 900+ soph PF who can't rebound or block as well as he should. He's an obvious sweet SF though!
