I get these emails that have staff reports on players suggesting they be promoted.  Are these legit emails that most follow and promote a player when suggested?  If not, when do most of you decide to promote a player?  Also, How do I insure a player gets playing time?  i currently use the "RECS" suggestion in my lineups.

Thx for any input.

1)  Ignore the reports.  They're useless.

2)  Make a list of who your potential major league prospects are.  Make sure they're active and in the lineup, or in the rotation/bullpen.  Check your minors once a day, take a brief look at stats.  If you see one of your "listed" prospects not getting AB's or IP's, figure out why and address it.

3)  You should be following the development of your prospects ratings as they improve over time.  You'll get a feeling for when you think they'll be ready for the majors.  Once you determine that timetable, you can time your promotions accordingly.  Promote them to the majors only when they are ready to contribute, and when they provide more value than the guy they'll be replacing.

Those reports are based on performance alone, not ratings improvements. SInce minor league stats vary quite a bit (because of the quality of players at different levels), I would ignore the stats. Follow tecwrg's advice above. If you see one of your prospects is not getting playing time when the sim manages, keep in mind that the 38 yr old 2b with 50 ratings across the board may be a better player right now than your prospect, and the sim may choose to play the old guy in optimizing a lineup to win, not development. You can play around with the players' primary position to make sure that the guys you want playing are the ones the sim sees as the best first options at that position.

I like to promote at the end of the season, but if one of my minor league teams has a chance at the postseason and the team below it doesn't, I may promote those guys earlier to give them the extra postseason playing time.
