Maybe I am wrong-headed about this, but I work under the assumption that a dead-pull hitter is more limited at the plate, an inferior hitter to someone who is capable of using the whole field.
At any rate, in the context of this player, I'd rather have a slap hitter who goes the other way than one who is looking to pull the ball. I don't know, like I said, I might be thinking of this all wrong.
Thanks for all the advice. In another post someone linked to a player with a contact rating of 1, but a batting eye in the upper 80s and solid vR and vL numbers; that guys is a 280 hitter in the major leagues (I think, I need to look at him again). Any reason to think this guy might be a 260/300/340 hitter? Is that completely terrible for a defensive CFer? Is it unrealistic to think he might hit 260? A 300 OBP is not ideal, but batting in front of the pitcher might help him a bit. Does any of this seem possible, or is he just an unmitigated disaster? Fourth outfielder?
