Is there anyone who has earned or is under contract more than www.whatifsports.com/hbd/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?

That is going to be one expensive 3rd starter in a few years.
10/14/2010 4:57 PM
But, no, I've never seen anyone get 2 max contracts.

Dude is a complete stud, but yeah if he starts to drop the way I have seen 35+ pitchers drop that will be a whale of a contract.

Funny, he was the 3rd pick in the draft.

He'll be fine until he's 38-39 depending on the new owner's budgets.

Also, that sounds like two prime candidates for wanting to see all the prospects.

That guy has made over 250 mil, which is crazy.

But:

To put that in real life perspective, AROD made just over 185 mil in 7 years and then signed his newest contract of 10 years 275 mil. That's also before you factor in the 10 mil or so in arbitration contracts from seattle or the almost 500k he made his first few years.

If AROD hits all of the performance incentives in his contract he will earn over $400 mil in baseball salary in about 23 years. And that's before endorsements.

He must have been a beneficiary of the training bug, I suppose?

That's an awful lot to give a 35 year old SP. But he seems to be holding up well.

Just a casual observation.  Most of the max contracts tend to go to pitchers.  Off the top of my head, I can't remember seeing a max contract going to a position player.  I'd be curious to see some examples of some who have.

Regarding the pitcher in the OP, note that he didn't hit his full potential until he was 31. If the owner maintains a high training budget, it wouldn't surprise me if he maintained pretty healthy effectiveness through age 38 or so. Maybe the last year or 1.5 years of the deal he will decline but also look at where he's starting from; he'll be ML quality for the life of his contract with good training, I have little doubt.

Funny.  I tend not to get attached enough to remember the names of any of the players on my abandonment picks.

Still, looking at his career stats, I'm not sure he's worth a max contract.  Looks like a first-time owner got  little over-zealous at contract time.
