Let the Sim set your lineup? Topic

I have seen several threads regarding setting distro to 0 and letting the Sim control it, when it hit me what if you did the same thing with your lineup. What if you left it entirely blank and let the SIM set it for you? I am not suggesting that this would be something that would be bennifical, just curious as to what the results would be.
Also what would happen if you left just one position blank? Would the Sim just pull from players you have set in your lineup or would it pick players best suited for that position?

Example 1: Say you left your SG empty and filled all other spots. None of your SG are set at any other position, will they be placed into your lineup as SG's or will they be left out all together?

Example 2: You leave your entire lineup empty, what happens? How is it filled? Does it change if you set your distros?

It will fill out the positions based on the listed position for that player.  So lets say you have a walk-on center and 4 PF's on your roster.  The walk-on will get the start at the 5 spot, even though he is probably the worst big man you have.  Not sure how Sim chooses which PF starts though.  I have always wondered about doing that during exhibition games just to see what SIM looks for in a starter.  Is it trying to match the player to the offense/defense you run?  Or is it the overall rating?

The sim definitely plays players out of position.  In fact, when I took over a team recently after years of sim coaching they had a true PF starting at C and a true C starting at PF.  That was actually where I wanted them, too.

I also routinely see sim teams that, for example, start 2 SGs even though they have a PG on their roster.

I would expect to see the Sim place what it considers the best player at each position, regardless of what position said player is listed at.
We see SIM run teams all the time start 2 SG's or 2 C's so why would they not do the same with every team.

My DIII N. Central team in IBA starts exhibitions tomorrow maybe I will give it a try and see what happens.
Plan will be as follows
Game 1: Gameplan as normal setting tempo, +/-, and distros leaving the depth chart totally empty.
Game 2: Gameplan as normal setting tempo, +/-, and leave the distros all set to 0.

I want to see if setting distros has any affect on who the Sim puts in the starting lineup. It will be interesting to see if there are any differences from game 1 to game 2.

although SIMs will not necessarily do creative things with lineups - I tend to look at teams after I move on - and it saddens me when a kid who I recruited as a SG who will be great at the SF spot gets misused by a SIM.....I mean, he isnt that fast, has mediocre BH and pass for a SG, but can rebound well, is a great shooter and defender, is darn athletic and for a SF his spd, bh and pass are just fine.....SIM starts him at the 2.....

Well I just tried to to set my lineup and leave the depth chart blank and I received an ERROR message, telling me that I must have a player at position 1 for each position on my depth chart. And in the new engine we all know that if you don't fill out more than the top spot no one else will get to play. So that dispells this idea.

Only way I could think to accomplish this would be to only have 5 seniors (or walk-ons/guys you're going to cut) listed at the 1 spot just before the season changes with the rest emptied out.  Save that as your depth chart, then they all graduate/leave/get cut, leaving your chart empty for the next season.
