How can I redshirt a player without seeing a drop in his WE?

You can try to inform him during recruiting, which will guarantee that he will accept it.  Costs a little more to recruit a player like this, but it's a 100% guarantee that he'll take the redshirt.

Or, you can try to redshirt a player and sometimes he'll simply accept the redshirt, no questions asked, without a WE drop.

Or, a third option is, try to redshirt a player and if his WE drops, remove the redshirt.  His WE will return to normal.  Then, try to redshirt the same player.  Sometimes he'll take it on the second attempt, many times he won't.  You can continue this indefinitely, but  "usually" if he doesn't take the redshirt after about the fourth or fifth attempt, he's not gonna accept it.  There have been instances where a player has, but they are kind of rare by that point.

There may be other ways, but it's getting late and this was what I came up with right off the top of my head.  Furry is good at stuff like this, he may be able to tell you some other methods that may work.

I've found the player is much more likely to accept a redshirt if there are at least 2 players already at his natural position. So if he's listed as a PG (regardless of where you plan to play him) and you already have 3 PG's on your roster, he's very likely to accept it, because he thinks he has little chance of playing time anyway.

zhawks did a great forum post about redshirting a while back. Some things have probably changed because of the changes in the engine, but his tips seem to always work for me.

You can also figure out if a guy will take a RS during recruiting with comments like "he's a real team player" or "he rides the bus" etc.  Those guys take the RS most of the time, while the ball hogs usually won't without a inform of RS hit.

informing is the best way other wise its a shot in the dark.  Sometimes ill take the we hit if they saty at a decent we

Notifying a player during recruiting only lets you know in advance whether they will be willing to take the RS. It doesn't help convince them to take the RS and most times they stop considering you when notified and other teams jump on your player. i have redshirted players without notifying almost exclusively. 90% of the players I notify in advance reject it.

I wonder how it was originally called "redshirting"?  It could just as easily been termed bluebenching or something.  Interesting.
It's because they are the first to die when transporting to a planet with Kirk, Spock and McCoy!

Per Wikipedia:

According to Webster's Third New International Dictionary, Unabridged, the term "redshirt" is so called from the red jersey commonly worn by such a player in practice scrimmages against the regulars.

This is totally off-topic but I've recently developed a curiosity about the origin of idioms.  I'll hear a phrase, wonder, "why do we say that?", and look it up.

For instance, "rub the wrong way".  In colonial times, the wide-oak floors had to be cleaned weekly, first with a wet-rub, then a dry-rub.  It had to be rubbed with the grain. If you rubbed against the grain, it streaked and looked terrible. Your employer was really upset because you 'rubbed the wrong way'.

players tend to RS if they're 3rd on the DP. He's more likely to take the RS without the drop if he doesn't think he'll play.

so if i recruit 2 SG's of PFs in one class - it's easier to RS one of them (especially the lower OVL ranked one) than if he's the only one in a class and second in line to play.
