I'd probably tend to play #2 at C, even if their bats were equal.
A better bat than the first guy shouldn't be a huge cost since his D won't matter. And really, if you don't want to spend the coin, don't.... but having the first guy as your b/u C and maybe even part time DH could work out really well - with both of those guys, you don't have to worry about DUR for your FA bat, you know?
