It also appears that the overwhelming majority of people are overreacting.    You make one bid on your guys, if they choose another option, you bid on a different set of guys.  There will be a lot of players out there.   The sky isn't falling.

This just gets back to people not taking care of their minors.  Aside from the odd C or SS I never re-sign 6-year FAs.

With 20-25 new draftees in Rookie Ball every year, it's hard not to have enough players available.

Once you see Rule 5 eligible players below AA, you know someone's not promoting properly.

I actually use the 6-year FA rule as a way to thin out AAA to promote my guys from AA, and so on down the line to Rookie.

I don't see the big deal here.

Not so sure that thats a correct statement.  If you look through the update thread there are around 10 people that state an opinion and it might be 60- 40 against.  Hardly overwhelming.  It just doesn't seem like it's that big a deal to me.

It will probably help me.  I re-sign C and high range guys at every level.    100 games in, I have 11 players in my Hamilton minors who haven't gotten an AB and, one third of the way thru the season in Coop, I've got 23 minors leaguers with no AB.   I'll save 200-500k per year if my guys don't accept my offer.

This isnt about how difficult it is.  A lot of owners dont care about their minors and anything which makes it more time consuming will only add to that.  I perdict a lot more teams with 10 guys at AA or only DH types and try out camp guys on their roster.

Except the 6 yr minor league FA's are usually from AAA or AA - I personally don't want to fill my AAA team with Rookie League players - especially my top prospects that I want to bring along slowly.

Oh, for God's sake.  It's really simple.

You get 20-25 new players each season.  Year 1, they're in RL.  Year 2, they're in LoA, year 3, they're in HiA, year 4 they're in AA, years 5 and 6, they're in AAA.

For your "real" prospects, the guys with major league potential, you might want them on a slightly different timetable, as you see fit.

"Once you see Rule 5 eligible players below AA, you know someone's not promoting properly."

I don't think this is necessarily true - why do you need to "properly promote" minor league filler that's never going to reach the majors?  If it's a Major League prospect then I agree with your point .

It's absolutely true (see above).  If you don't promote your guys, even the crap, they you risk lots of retirements at the lower levels, thus depleting your world of minor league filler.  Which is the primary reason whay a lack of minor league free agents is such a pervasive problem in HBD.  Seriously, using advanced roster moves, it can be done in 10-15 minutes at the end of every season.  That's 10-15 minutes of your time every three months.

I have a few guys below AA who are R5 eligible.  You know what they are?  FA who'll re-sign at HiA/LoA salary.   If they move on, I don't think I'll be damaged.

If they don't care, they don't care.  You can have 9 guys in AAA with the current system, too.

I don't think it's nearly as big a deal as what is being made here.

See tecwrg's response.  He has it nailed.

Yes, you need to continuously promote minor league filler.

Are you really suggesting that your entire AAA and AA rosters are ML prospects??
