Am I missing something here Topic

Scrolling through the conference stat leaders, I saw a guy averaging over 16 boards a game (we are 12-13 games into our current season).  Impressed, I then clicked on the player profile and was a bit shocked to say the least given his ratings.  Now I unerstand that the competition has been less than impressive, but c'mon.....these results are way off this far into the season, at least in my opinion.

He has posted over 30 rebounds twice this season, which I have never seen even once before.  In the game link above, what the heck was the starting PF doing only getting 2 rebounds with similar reb and ath ratings?  Anyway, I don't post as much as I used to, but I did find this interesting and thought it might be worth sharing.

Maybe WE means more in rebounding? that would be my only guess.

im not about to look at every team they have played....but how on earth does a team that awful have 5 wins.

THe teams ARE just that bad.  There were teams with nine and ten walkons they were playing.

Man, that is weird.  His rebounding numbers aside, it's strange that there is such a disparity between his teammates.  It'd be one thing if the team was averarging 50+ rebounds do to bad shooting and he got the most, but no one else on the team rebounds at all.

This team has 8 walkons, including the starting SF.  Looks like the SIM has it set to play the 4 scholarship players practically the entire game, though only this center Haney that's grabbing all the boards has legit stamina (95) to do so.  The PF with similar ATH and REB ratings has only 62 ST, so he's winded probably half his playing time, making him pretty useless grabbing a board apparently (4.7 rpg) but somehow still good enough to be second on the team in scoring while shooting 45% on FGA.  That part doesn't jive with me.  The monster center is playing 39 mpg, while the PF is hauling in 31 mpg....all the while playing the FB offense.  Nice!

But, ironically or coincidentally, it was OR who just a couple of days ago in another thread said he knew how to get a kid to average 15 rpg....just have horrible rebounders on a team except for 1 kid and that kid will grab most of the boards.  I think this team fits the description to a T.  Also, I think someone else said the engine favors rebounding from the center position over the PF position, so that's contributing here as well I'm sure.

Yeah, definitely a case of star player by default on a horrid team.

I was told the engine determines which team gets the rebound and then looks for a player to assign it to. The team REB rating is 20...he's the only player on the floor that has any stamina and rebounding...throw him out there with a random four teammates and he's going to be a strong candidate for being the one assigned to find the ball for his team.

On an aside -- I see the problem of Sim teams having an insane number of walkons hasn't been fixed. If this team has eight and has, as someone else said, played teams with nine or 10, something is massively F'd up in the Sim recruiting process. There's no reason every Sim team shouldn't have, at the very least, 10 scholarship players to start a season. Having schools that are little more than the equivalent of the campus rec league champions is just a joke.

Regarding sim teams having excessive walk-ons:

Wouldn't it make sense to randomly distribute unsigned recruits at the end of the recruiting period to SIM teams that will be having a bunch of walk-ons otherwise? I'm no programmer but that can't be too difficult to implement can it?

It is already in the game with first year coaches having the asst bring in guys who are better then walk ons. It wouldn't be hard at all to do the same thing for sim ais.
