Is this a new thing in recruiting? Topic

So I just tried to do the ole guarantee a start to a senior transfer to sign him for $110 so I can get carryover and my AD wouldn't let me offer the scholarship. I'm at a B- D1 school and he was a D3 recruit, I never tried it with a D3 recruit with a D1 team before although I did with a D2 recruit who actually transferred from my conference. If this is new I like the addition, eventhough I utilized this strategy several times I always thought it was dumb that a recruit would even actually believe this offer and I'm glad it's not something that can be done indiscriminately.

no, its not new. i think it is to stop d1 schools from pillaging 1yr players from lower divisions to roll over their bonus monies, when the other guy can't fight back. or to stop a coach from totally screwing a team over by signing 12 d3 players ;)

Learn something new everyday, like I said I'm glad this is in the game.

i guess i agree. but i miss the days of unmolested giving of promises. its was my favorite tool. cheap though. in d2, if i wanted to poach a guy, i would just promise start+30 to every player the other guy was going for 2 cycles before signings, and hit the one i want hard the cycle before signings. worked like a charm. got some folks riled up though.

there has for a long time been a level of disparity at which your AD would not let you recruit a guy like that - dont know whether they have adjusted the gap, but thats been in the game for ages
