These are real players from my team, given the following ATH/SPD/DEF/IQ which do you think is the better defender in the man-to-man and why?

Butler:  48 / 89 / 55 / A-
Lynch:  72 / 67 / 64 / B+

(They are both from the same class and Butler just recently got the A- IQ so Lynch is probably not too far behind there.)  These are guards at DI, if that matters to you.

Depends on who they are guarding.   

Since it's a guard, I say #1. Spd trumps ath for guard imo. 22 spd for 24 ath and 9 defense, I like #1. 

Lynch is the better defender if he's guarding 2's. Especially since you run man. If you pressed, I'd go #1, but zone/man, I go with #2 all day. Both those kids are nice players though. 

I'd rate them just about even, so I'll second bscoresby's comment... if the opposing guard is really fast then go with Butler, otherwise go with Lynch.

Butler by a wide margin.  They're not nearly different enough defensively in either direction to make up for the fact that Butler is literally several times as meaningful on the offensive end...

I should point out - I didn't even look at their offensive abilities, I thought the question was solely about the defensive end.

davis, it was; it's not a who should start or anything question.  I was just interested in who people thought was better on the defensive end, since it is tough to judge with the limited feedback we get.
