What's wrong with my offense? Topic

This is the team in question. Idk why but my off% are down across the board for almost every player. Is it just because of the tough the OOC or is something structurally wrong with my team? I know I am starting a FR at PF but besides that, what else?

I'd say nothing is really wrong.  Your overall FG% of 48.7% is decent, and when you consider how many treys your team shoots it looks even better.  Your team is shooting 56% on two-point shots and 38% on threes, nothing wrong with those numbers at all.  The overall FG% of "only" 48.7% is a natural consequence of having a SF who is primarily a perimeter shooter and takes a lot of threes.

If you look at specific players, for example, Howell's .40 is really .50/.37 and Stogner's .43 is really .46/.35 on twos/threes respectively.  Nothing wrong with that.  I might lower Stogner's share of the distro a bit when compared to Lauritsen, Howell, and Yates, but I don't see where you need a major change.

But if you look at Stogner and Howell's fg% from this yr to last, it's a huge dropoff. Same thing with Gronosky.

Well, Howell is now being guarded by starters now instead of backups.  As for Stogner, it appears that you've upped his share of the distro from last year, which means he could be taking somewhat more difficult shots than previously.  (Guys with low shares tend to shoot for a higher percentage because their stats are padded more by layups and other easy shots.)

Don't know about Gronosky... smaller sample size maybe?  At any rate, I don't see anything basic that you're doing wrong in terms of how you're using them.  I think it is either a slight aberration or a consequence of playing good opponents.

Just wondering - did you have a really good big man who graduated last year?  If so, when opponents see you running an offense that is heavily perimeter-based, maybe they are adjusting their defensive positioning and it is hurting your perimeter players on offense.  If you had a huge and high-scoring LP threat last season, then he would have been keeping opposing defenses honest.  Just a guess.

Maybe that's it, I did have a 652 rated C graduate, but he was more of a rebounding/defensive force with his 99reb, 95 blk, than his scoring. He was 33 ath/spd, with 80 something lp, but did manage to shoot around .600 his SR year. Maybe graduating a bigman that can score and replacing him with a FR is hurting my backcourt efficiency.

your passing kind of sucks, which impacts fg% of team mates in the new engine.

more importantly, your schedule in your non conf is a lot harder than in conf, which likely means your stats are deflated right now compared to last year and really comparing them to last year doesn't get you a heck of a lot.

I don't think passing explains it, since the 2 players that graduated last year was the C and a backup SG with passing in the 40s.

That's what I think is going on with a tough OOC. Hopefully my team bounces back in conf play.

your fg% and 3pt% really are pretty good, i wouldn't be upset by them at all. i would be wary of hoping to bounce back from that kind of performance :) because the bounce could be the wrong way!  (obviously not 100% serious on that last bit but i am 100% serious that your performance is fine. if you expect it to be higher, it should be based on your ratings and settings, not last year's team, because schedules always muck up the water - also 10 seasons is definitely prone to small sample size issues. if you look to your ratings, to me, the only thing holding you back is passing, but luckily you run motion, so i think offensively you are pretty well set).

I'm not particularly worried about making the NT because I built up a solid SOS and conference play should be challenging, but not disastrously bad to knock me out. But it's a little disconcerting to go 6-4 in OOC, even though the competition was fierce.
