D1 Red Shirt : When Topic

When is the best time to offer a RS during D1 recruiting?

At the very beginning or once he is 'solid'/'tight' with your school.

Thanks,

in a way, the answer is it depends - like do you not want him unless he will RS?  or is it something you would undo?  are you willing to spend more to get him to RS?

if you only want him if he will take the RS without complaint and easily, then can do it early- if it is just gravy or if you will spend more effort to get him to yes, may want to wait

its a tactics thing

How much do you think it would cost to buy him back?

depends on the guy and your team - if the kid is someone you could just barely get interested in you, it will take a lot - if the kid is someone who is thrilled that you want to talk to him, it wont take much at all

i mean if you are already "very tight" with the kid, then it probably shouldn't take much of anything.

it's just a negative recruiting effect. it's like you sent a backwards HV or something.

usually a few campus visits does the trick (or a handful of home visits) but there is definitely a factor that affects the amount, but i am not sure exactly what it is. how the guy fits in the range of recruits who will talk to your school seems to be part of it - but i really doubt that is the only thing. maybe if somebody cared they could try a lot of these situations with personality profiles and nail it down, but i doubt anybody cares that much :O

I offered the RS to him - In the same cycle I paid 3 HV & 3 Evals - The first message I got back from him was that he 'really ever liked my school anyway' - He took the home visits and he was back on board - He is a 1 star PF  and I'm at a B- prestige but slipping.

Thanks for the help.

next time, try it with less extra effort - you have to learn to gauge how well you have him hooked and what it will take - if anything - more

I've never like the inform of redshirt button.  I redshirt guys all the time without telling them.  There are 2 risks in using that button.  The first is that they tell you off and then they are no longer considering you, opening up other schools to swoop in.  The second is that he says no, so then you inform of non-redshirt and then you try to redshirt him when the season starts and he says "did you forget that you specifically said you weren't going to redshirt me?  I didn't" and so you can't RS him.

its a good thing for some purposes and a mistake for others

it really has nothing to do with the effort you put in that cycle - instead how much over the bare minimum to have him consider you you were to start. with a very tight message, you probably could have gotten away with no extra stuff. might have lost the "very tight" FSS message though.
