Two guys I am trying to decide where to play.

Assume that every other position is filled with players well above recs, and these are the only two players in question....who would you put where and why?

Player 1:

81 range, 80 glove, 85 arm strength, 84 arm accuracy

Player 2

89 range, 70 glove, 48 arm strength, 60 arm accuracy

Thanks in advance.

Player 1 at 2b and player 2 in CF.  No doubt about it in my mind.  Arm is surprisingly important at 2B.

As a rule of thumb:  range (player 2) in CF, glove (player 1) at 2B.

Though you'll see a lot of errors with a 70 glove in CF.  He's really not that great of an option at either position.

Wouldn't really be thrilled with a 70 glove in CF.

You should put the second guy in CF but he will be below average with his glove and arm. But 2B is much more important and I would always recommend putting a better fielder at 2B as opposed to CF.

The very first thing you should look at is throwing hand, if he throws left handed, he should be in CF

Handedness is not an issue. They are both righties.

While my gut reaction was the same as everyone here, according to the recs, everything is the exact opposite of what you guys are saying. Player 2 with his 70 glove is closer to the recs for 2B, and his arm is only slightly under the recs there as well. While Player 1 is clearly better across the board, it seems that the negative impact of Player 2 is lessened by having him at 2B as opposed to CF.

Appreciate the thoughts. Keep them coming.

Recs are a good guideline but you have to look beyond the recs and think about which position is the most important. The recs for a CF's glove are much higher than those for a 2B's glove, but since 2B is so much more important you want to put the better fielder there because he gets tons more chances and that higher glove will mean many more outs from him.

I consider myself much more devoted to fielding than a lot of other HBD players, but I do think it's a very important factor to put a lot of planning into. I just won my first championship and it was no coincidence that my SS and 2B both won Gold Gloves. I believe if you put two outstanding fielders in those positions, your pitching will always overachieve overall. I may be wrong, but that philosophy has yet to fail me. I should also note that since I started playing that SS/2B tandem 4 seasons ago, my team has taken home the Cy Young award every year.
