Conference Freshman of the Year Topic

In Knight, I took over Indiana U. in D2. I figured I would like to rebuild them with 4 scholarships and minimum talent on the roster. I started 3 freshman guards and 1 freshman center all season. 1 of my guards, in particular, had an outstanding season. Through out non-conference, he was the 5th leading scorer in D2 and number 1 in the conference. His numbers dipped slightly throughout conference play, but I still thought he would have a chance at NFOY and was a lock for CFOY. My freshman Center ended up with the honors. Not that I am upset with my center winning the award by any means, but I felt my guard really deserved it more.

My guard also got snubbed for even being honorable mentions of the all-conference. Stat-wise, he played better than both the 3rd team and 2nd team all-conference players. He didn't even get honorable mentions, something that my center received.

Does the all conference award use conference only stats now?

Yes, the conference awards are based on conference play only.

That answers my question I guess. His stats dipped in conference play.

Okay, I understand how my guard didn't win CFOY, but does the NFOY only include conference stats?

Joseph Gilliland
vs.
Wayne Young

This isn't me attempting to bash the other coach for his player, just a question of curiosity. The only difference is my player scored nearly 7 ppg more, while the other coach was able to lead his to the the NT. I thought this awards relied on stats more than team, and team only really mattered if the stats were close.

I believe the FG% has an impact on awards. The rebounds pushed the big closer, but I think the FG% pushed him over.

Yeah I understand my center over my guard because I didn't realize it was in-conference play only. But the NFOY is what I am still curious about.
