According to the Players' Guide
whatifsports.com/knowledgebase/KB_Article_Details.aspx if you rescind a scholarship, you do not gain additional money to recruit a replacement that season. In addition to that, you can also lose Loyalty rating.
Keep in mind, that rescinding a scholarship of a player that you signed for no fault of the player may make recruiting for your school more difficult in the future as no kid will want to play at a program which isn't loyal to it's players. You do not receive any additional recruiting money when you rescind a scholarship. Also, cutting a player could cause other players to leave as well.
My first recruiting class, before I figured out what I was supposed to do, was large (6 players) and about half worthless. They're going to be juniors next season and I really would like to cut 1 or 2 of them to help rebalance my classes and bring in better players.
The problems are these: I'm at a D+ prestige, so I'm taking a risk that I'll be able to pull anyone down in the first place, or even recruit better talent. I also don't want to have to recruit 3 or 4 players on the budget I'll get this season for having 2 departing seniors - if I can't spam a prospect with scouting visits I'm basically screwed, I think.
I'm assuming that if you cut a sophomore, you regain that recruiting budget after another season? Or is the money gone until he would have been a senior?
Have any of you ever had other players leave after you rescinded scholarships? Has the hit on your Loyalty rating hurt you down the road?
I have 1 junior on the roster and because I haven't been playing him, he's making noises about transferring. Will I get budget money for his spot? If I fill it immediately and have no seniors next year, will my recruiting budget be zero? (That will make a difference on timing if I decide to rescind a couple of scholarships)
It's taken me 2 seasons to figure out what I'm doing wrong. I'd really like to get it right and start winning some games one day :)
