I just drafted this guy 8th overall and would prefer he not sign so I can draft in the same spot next season. Do I have to meet his initial demands to gain a COMP pick?  Can I low ball him a few times to make him more unsignable?
As it stands this is his signability message
'May sign if the deal is right. Has been offered several scholarships to play college baseball at a DI school'..

He's a decent enough pitching prospect I just dont like his DUR and the SP I drafted at 33 seems like a better fit.

#8 pick

How do you utilize a pitcher with a 13 DUR?

1/13/2011 5:49 PM
You have to at least meet his initial demands, and he needs to decline.  Lowballing him will not qualify you to get a Type D.

You can use him as a setup guy.

the 8th pick will be a very good starter, maybe you'll need to skip him in the roatation couple time per season but 13 dur isn't that bad. I'd sign that guy and make him one of my main franchise players. If he reaches those projected rating he'll be a killer starter.

You'll have to spot start him but he will be a stud

Elite closer.

#33 is not a ML caliber pitcher

#8: If he makes it up to an 86 stamina, just treat him like a pitcher with 60 or 65 stamina in terms of pitch counts. You should be able to use him roughly like a normal starter in a 5-man rotation, plus you'll get the added benefit of him being generally, slightly more effective since he'll get yanked from games before he gets too fatigued. And in a playoff, must-win situation you can always turn up the heat and let him toss 100+ pitches since he has the stamina for it. In terms of actual skill he is without a doubt Cy Young-caliber if he hits those projections.

#33: I would happily take this guy in my rotation, but note that I am obsessed with slick-fielding middle infielders, which makes his projected 100 GB/FB a perfect match for an owner like me. At first glance his pitches don't seem very good since he doesn't have one stellar "out" pitch, but a closer look reveals 4 ML-quality pitches and I have seen that be enough to carry a pitcher (see Ebenezer Brett). His 93 control is great and his splits are fine for a back-end starter. Overall if he hits his projections he will definitely be an above-average pitcher.

Well yeah, he is.  Just not a very good ML caliber pitcher.  Mediocre vR split and mediocre pitches.  #5 starter (skipped when possible), or mop-up guy.

You Do have to meet his initial demands and he must reject you, then don't offer him more and you'll get a comp pick. However I suggest you sign him and he is an elite pitcher. If his dur worries you, you could trade him for a almost any other player in your world as he has a ton of value. I wouldn't hesitate to take him #1 overall and pay him a $12m bonus if needed.

There is no way that this 8th pick is going to make those projections. Gain 36 in control? No way!!!

Don't know how old #8 is but I'll but if he's 18 I think you can safely add 20 pts to certain ratings. For example, if he ended up with STA 81, CT 60, LH 73, RH 81, and top 4 pitches of 92, 71,60, 68  he would still be a pretty darn good SP. Don't know why you wouldn't want to sign him. That low DUR just means he won't be able to pitch quite as often, but when he does he'll be very good. I had this guy. Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Marquis Wade and he was nowhere near as good as your guy should be. But for useage expectations, he started 23-28 games in his peak years with about 160-170 IP.

They're both 18yrs old.. I just figured I could do better with the same pick next season. I have an abundance of young pitchers with this team.

I'll meet his inintial demands and maybe work on trading him next season for a hitter of equal talent.

Here's a few of the young pitchers that I already have.
