Recruiting Question Topic

I'm trying to pull down a player from within 70 miles.  So far I've sent him a cumulative total of 17 scouting trips, 2 letters, and 11 phone calls.  Still a backup option (he is a pretty good D2 recruit).  Anyway, I only have 1 opening and I'm down to having enough money left for 1 scouting trip and 2 $10 recruiting actions.  My question is whether I'd be better served to send him 1 last scouting trip or a bunch of phone calls and letters.  Thanks.

Calls. (or promises) He did give you the backup message right?

Yeah, has been all along.  I'm not retarded...

I seriously doubt he would accept any promises at this point.  Or I would have already done that.  Although I would really like to RS the guy...

I think scouting trip would be better than the phone calls

I figured but then again you never know.  He may take the promises if they are doen together.  And if you r/s him it will wipe the promises clean.

Did you offer a scholarship yet?

I'd go with a scholly ($100) if you haven't already, and promise him some playing time as well. Start at 10 min and move up to 15 than 20 ($10 each).  If you super-really have to have him, versus the other team getting him, try promising him a start as well ($10).

There's no other team.  Think some people are misinterpreting.  Just haven't successfully pulled him down  yet.  That's why I don't think he'll accept minutes.  He's not considering anyone.  Not trying to win a battle; I know how to do that.  I'm trying to pull him down within my budget.

If your not competing against anyone, throw him the scholly if you haven't already and definitely throw some playing time and or a start in his direction. I had a guy like this last season and when I threw the start in, he started considering me. You can always set him to (fairly fresh) for fatigue and set his backup to (getting tired). This way you keep the promise of the start and the backup, who is really your starter, gets the majority of the minutes.

He'd have the talent to start for me right away.  I just don't want to decrease the probability of him taking a redshirt any more than necessary.  He has 4 high-high potentials.

dahs, at the risk of insulting you, are you sure its the backup messages you've been getting? Within 70 miles you might be able to recruit him with normal efforts...otherwise I concur that another eval is more effective than some calls, but 1 more may not be enough. Could be someone else is trying to pull him down too?

I know backup messages when I see them...  And he's never been considering anyone.  So it could have been that, but I still think it wasn't.  I got him.  Looks like this:

Ath - 31, low
Spd - 51, high-high
Reb - 6, high-high
Def - 18, high-high
Block - 1, low
LP - 12, low
Per - 50, high-high
BH - 58, average
Pass - 60, average
Stamina - 68, high
Durability - 38, low
FT - 64%, high

I know there are some guys out there who won't love him because he's not uber-athletic, but I think he's going to be a heck of a player by the time he's an upperclassman.  Guards with overalls in the upper 600s with lowish durability aren't the norm in D3, at least in Knight.  He'll be above average.  May never get his rebounding to its full potential, we'll see...

For me, the biggest concern is his (Def), even with the high/high, an 18 to start concerns me. He would definitely benefit from a RS. With the 18 Def, I personally don't know if I would start him, even in my scenario. Throw him the scholly and see where it goes.

dahs, no offense on the backup message thing - good job signing him, but you'll have to score me on the side of guys who don't like him coz of his ath...I hope he develops into a great player for ya though :)  I don't really play D III anymore, so I'm not a good judge, but even at D III I think perhaps <35 ath is pretty low. I've had some success going the exact opposite direction, sacrificing a bit on cores if need be to pump up the Ath...

Did you use an additional eval to pull him or did he drop?
