Crum - Threel No. 1 Seeds Out (1st Round) Topic

Through the first round of the DII tourney, 3 of the No. 1 seeds have been upset by the 16 seed.

1 Drury v. 16 Gannon
1 St. Mary's v. 16 Arkansas Tech
1 S.W. Minnesota St. v. 16 W. Alabama

And in the second round, the other No. 1 seed was knocked out by the 8 seed.

Limestone v. 8 Cal Poly Ponoma

Anyone think this is extremely odd? Has this ever happened before in DII or DI?

they should've done a better job of game planning.

if we look at the st. mary game i can see that his 3pt frequency is off for his sg, and his most talented big man took 2 shots. who's fault is that, the game or the coach?
how does blair only take one shot? the kid is a beast.

Although upsets I dont consider the 1st and 3rd games to be huge game engine issues. Those are 2 tough #16 seeds whose RPIs (for whatever reason) are lower than they normally would be. Maybe they threw away some easy games in the regular season.

The 2nd game is a head scratcher from a roster standpoint but it could be poor game planning by a coach who was over condifent.

Exactly, mully. I explained in alblack's earlier thread that this is what happened. I figured after winning 13 in a row, including the CT, in the best conference in DII Cum, I would be ok going with what got me there against a 16 seed. I was wrong, obviously. I see uglyskunk's point about the distro for Blair and Whicker, but I felt my guards and SF were my best offensive options, and Blair didn't see as many minutes playing behind Mason and Ross. He was a JUCO guy and his IQ wasn't where I wanted it yet. I'm not sure I fully understand uglyskunk's comment about the SG's 3-point frequency. Ross shot 44% from 3 this season in over 300 attempts, and shot 46% over his 4 years. He was shooting too many at that % ? I feel like after reading the comments that my team set up was WAY off, even after going 25-5 (14-2 in the top RPI conference that produced two #1 seeds),  so I appreciate the feedback.

The talent disparity between 1 and 64 in HD isn't as great as it is in RL, so this is understandable.
